Star Trek Online (video collection)
By McAkomx The mighty Don and I are players of Star Trek Online since the beta of the game. We both own a lifetime subscription and we are still active players, as far as someone can say “active”. Now I could write pages and pages about the game, but instead of words, I like to show some videos we have created in recent years about the game.
These videos are not always the most amazing but they’re made by fans like us, for fans like you. And even if you are not a fan of the franchise, you might enjoy them. Have fun watching!
A) The very first video and made without the demorecord feature of the game (at that time we did not know that there is such a thing). The HUD was disabled and the movements of the camera were made with a combination of mouse and xbox controller. The video is entirely inspired by the awesome music from Star Trek II - The Wrath of Khan by James Horner. There is not much action, only a galaxy class spaceship that flies around the earth.

B) The second video and like the first, made without the demorecord feature of the game. Also like in the first video, the HUD was disabled and the movements of the camera were made with a xbox controller. The design of the visitor who spied on the Starfleet Academy, is inspired by the 70s and 80s. We tried the catch the mood of these decades with a particular music. In this case, Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of “The War of the Worlds”, The Eve of the War.

C) Our third video. There is not much to report about this video. Pure gameplay, during an event. Q had visited the Earth Spacedock and had some presents in his bags.

D) In this video we showed just a few faces and bodies to give you a glimpse of the possibilities of the character designer in Star Trek Online.

E) In this video we heavily used the demorecord feature of the game for the first time. It was meant to be as a kind of mini-film, in the length of a trailer about the fight against the Borg in Star Trek Online.

F) A small teaser for new content in Star Trek Online, inspired by the teaser for Star Trek - First Contact.

G) This was the first part of the episodic like serie “Starbunny’s Dream”, we tried to create. The goal was to bring the viewer more infos about the game and to entertain them at the same time. While it was fun to make the video, we canceled the “show” after 3 episodes. It just did not work.

H) The second episode of “Starbunny’s Dream”. Less action and more information.

I) There were some shocking news for many Star Trek Online players towards the end of 2011. The game was bought by a new publisher and that publisher (Perfect World Entertainment), was known for making money with free-to-play games.
Although it has always been an item shop in the game, the end of the world had come for many players. F2P games have a reputation for being inferior, because you don’t have to pay for them. But that’s not logical. There are many good F2P games and also a lot of bad ones, just like games you have to pay for.
At this time, the old publisher Atari was struggling with falling sales with all their products and STO had fewer subscribers each month that passed. The general reputation of the game was rather poor, so to turn the game into a free to play model was the only logical consequence. Now I’ve written a lot about “why” they made that step, but I wanted to tell you why we made this video.
It should indicate that free-to-play is nothing bad and nothing to be afraid of. Any “old” players should be happy about all of the new players coming now, and keep Star Trek Online alive. We have made this video to create a positive mood about upcoming changes.

J) This is the second recruitment video we made for a fleet in STO. The first one we made was so crap, we don’t even dare to show it here. But the second one, the on below, was much better. The quality in relation to the first video has increased enormously. We had a lot of fun during the production and the ladies and gentlemen of the Omega-Flotte fleet were thrilled when we delivered the final product.

K) In this video the Don shows us on of the Special Task Force instance of Star Trek Online. The instance is called “Infected” and you can imagine it like an instance in any other game, but with Starships. Five players get together and clean up the instance and at the end there is loot :D
