I) There were some shocking news for many Star Trek Online players towards the end of 2011. The game was bought by a new publisher and that publisher (Perfect World Entertainment), was known for making money with free-to-play games.
Although it has always been an item shop in the game, the end of the world had come for many players. F2P games have a reputation for being inferior, because you don’t have to pay for them. But that’s not logical. There are many good F2P games and also a lot of bad ones, just like games you have to pay for.
At this time, the old publisher Atari was struggling with falling sales with all their products and STO had fewer subscribers each month that passed. The general reputation of the game was rather poor, so to turn the game into a free to play model was the only logical consequence. Now I’ve written a lot about “why” they made that step, but I wanted to tell you why we made this video.
It should indicate that free-to-play is nothing bad and nothing to be afraid of. Any “old” players should be happy about all of the new players coming now, and keep Star Trek Online alive. We have made this video to create a positive mood about upcoming changes.
J) This is the second recruitment video we made for a fleet in STO. The first one we made was so crap, we don’t even dare to show it here. But the second one, the on below, was much better. The quality in relation to the first video has increased enormously. We had a lot of fun during the production and the ladies and gentlemen of the Omega-Flotte fleet were thrilled when we delivered the final product.
K) In this video the Don shows us on of the Special Task Force instance of Star Trek Online. The instance is called “Infected” and you can imagine it like an instance in any other game, but with Starships. Five players get together and clean up the instance and at the end there is loot 😀
